Cisco Gold Partner No Longer Exists: How to Check a Cisco Partner in 2026

If your tender asks bidders to be a Cisco Gold Partner, no company in the world can comply. Cisco retired the Gold, Premier and Select levels on 24 January 2026, and a new set of portfolio designations took effect the following day under the Cisco 360 Partner Program. Checking a supplier in 2026 means opening the Cisco Partner Locator and filtering by the portfolio your project actually sits in, not asking the supplier to email you a badge.

What changed on 25 January 2026

Cisco's customer FAQ, New Cisco Partner Designations, dated August 2026, puts two dates on the record. All previous partner levels retired on 24 January 2026. The new designations took effect on 25 January 2026 and are reflected in Cisco Partner Locator. Cisco first announced the Cisco 360 Partner Program in an October 2024 newsroom release that described it as launching in 2026, so the change had roughly fifteen months of notice before anything moved.

The structure is different in kind, not only in name. Every company enrolled in the program is a registered Cisco Partner. Above that sit nine portfolio designations: Cisco Networking Partner, Cisco Security Partner, Cisco Collaboration Partner, Cisco Cloud and AI Infrastructure Partner, Cisco Splunk Partner, Cisco Services Partner, Cisco Mass-Scale Infrastructure Partner, Cisco Advisor Partner and Cisco Developer Partner. Each has a Preferred version, for example Cisco Preferred Security Partner, for firms Cisco records as holding advanced technical expertise and lifecycle practice. On top of those sit competencies, specializations and Cisco Powered Services.

The trap is assuming Preferred is Gold with a new label. Cisco answers that directly in the same FAQ and says a Cisco Preferred Partner is not a direct replacement for Gold. The old levels measured a company as a whole. The new designations are granted per portfolio, so a firm can be a Cisco Preferred Collaboration Partner and hold nothing at all in networking.

Why your tender template is now unanswerable

Procurement wording in the UAE tends to survive by copy and paste. A clause written into a Dubai office fit-out tender in 2019 gets pasted into the 2026 version, and nobody reads it again until a bidder asks a question. If that clause says bidders must hold Cisco Gold Partner status and the award lands after 24 January 2026, you have written a requirement that disqualifies every bidder, including the ones you wanted.

Cisco published a second FAQ for exactly this problem, Solicitation Responses, also dated August 2026, aimed at partners who held Gold status through the transition and at public sector buyers who embedded it in contracts. Its advice to customers is to stop requiring Gold status exclusively in solicitations awarded after 24 January 2026 and to ask instead for validated capability in the relevant portfolio. Its advice to partners facing a Gold clause is to explain that the status was valid through 24 January 2026 and to point the buyer at their Cisco Partner Locator profile.

If you are rewriting that clause this quarter, the shape below reflects Cisco's guidance without repeating a status that no longer exists.

Old clause What to ask for in 2026
Bidder must be a Cisco Gold Partner. Bidder must hold a current Cisco designation in the relevant portfolio, named in the bid and verifiable in Cisco Partner Locator.
Bidder must be Cisco certified. Bidder must list the individual Cisco certifications of the named delivery engineers, with verification codes.
All equipment must be genuine Cisco. All equipment supplied new, with serial numbers issued at delivery for coverage and warranty checking against Cisco records.

How to check a Cisco partner in five minutes

Cisco Partner Locator is the record of truth, and Cisco rebuilt it alongside the program. The updated tool carries filters for Global Status, Portfolios, Competencies, Cisco Powered Services, Partner Type and Industries served, and a signed-in user can compare up to four partners at a time and download the comparison. Partner listings now show the Cisco 360 designations rather than the retired levels.

  1. Search the legal entity, not the trading name. A group may run one company in Dubai and another in Riyadh or London. Locator searches by address and site location, and many partners list several. Ask which entity signs your contract and whether that entity holds the designation.
  2. Match the portfolio to the work. A Cisco Collaboration Partner designation says nothing about a Catalyst switching refresh. If the project is campus switching and wireless, you want the networking portfolio named.
  3. Ask for engineer level proof separately. Company designations and individual certifications are different records. A CCNA, CCNP or CCIE can be confirmed through Cisco's public credential verification on CertMetrics using the verification code printed on the certificate, or by asking the engineer to publish their credentials from the Cisco Certification Tracking System.
  4. Name the engineers in the contract. Designations belong to companies. The person who arrives in Jebel Ali at 07:00 to cut over a core switch may be a subcontractor. If continuity matters, write the names and certifications into the scope.
  5. Check the hardware against Cisco's own records. Cisco's Warranty Finder takes a product ID and needs no login, and Cisco's published warranty terms range from a 90 day limited hardware warranty through one, three and five year cover to limited lifetime on some families. Serial number coverage checking needs a free Cisco.com account. Ask for serials at delivery, before the boxes are opened and racked.

What a designation still will not tell you

A Cisco Preferred Networking Partner badge is evidence of validated skills. It is not evidence that the firm has a spare 9300 series switch in a Dubai warehouse on the Thursday your old one fails. Availability, shipping route and who holds the stock are separate questions, and they are the ones that move a project date. We wrote about that in lead times and the stock reality for enterprise hardware in the UAE.

A designation also says nothing about where a specific box came from. Grey market units carry genuine serials that were sold into another region, which shows up later as a refused support case rather than at the moment of delivery. The checks that catch it are in genuine versus grey market IT hardware in the UAE, and the commercial terms that let you enforce them sit in the quotation itself, line by line, as covered in reading an enterprise hardware quotation line by line.

Five questions worth asking before you sign

  • Which Cisco designations does the contracting entity hold today, and in which portfolios? Ask for the Partner Locator profile link, not a PDF certificate.
  • Does any document in this deal still reference Gold, Premier or Select status? Anything awarded after 24 January 2026 needs rewording.
  • Which named engineers hold which certifications, and can each be verified by code?
  • Who supplies the hardware, and will serial numbers be issued at delivery?
  • If the designation lapses during a three year contract, what happens? The new designations are earned against criteria that can be re-assessed, so a status held on signing day is not permanent.

Codeeo Tech supplies the hardware side of this. If you are sizing a Cisco refresh in Business Bay, DIFC or Dubai Silicon Oasis and want line items you can put into a bid, the Cisco range is on the shop and every item goes through a quote request so the specification is confirmed before anything is priced.
