HP Monitor Names Decoded for Dubai Buyers: Series 3, 5 and 7 Pro, E, Z and OMEN

An HP monitor name now tells you most of what you need before you open a spec sheet. In a current business model such as the HP Series 5 Pro 527pq, the first digit repeats the series (5), the next two digits give the screen size (27 inch), and the closing letters mark the variant: in HP's own listings, "q" models are QHD, "k" models are 4K and "f" models are Full HD. Older HP E-Series names such as the E27k G5 follow a different pattern, while Z and OMEN are separate families for creative and gaming use. This guide decodes each scheme so that a Dubai quotation, a retailer listing and HP's own page can be matched line for line.

One caution up front: we did not find an official HP key for the letters, so the decoding below is based on how HP names its own products on its stores, checked on 20 October 2026. Always confirm the final choice against the HP spec sheet for the exact product number.

The HP monitor families on sale now

HP's Australian business monitor store groups its range by series, which is a useful map of what exists. On the day we checked, its business monitor filters listed HP Series 7 Pro, HP Series 5 Pro, HP Series 3 Pro, the HP E-Series and the HP P-Series. Series without "Pro" are sold too, such as the HP Series 3 27 inch 327se that HP's Middle East site lists as a laptop accessory, but they did not appear in the business filters. OMEN sits under gaming monitors. HP's US store also uses an "HP Z display" filter for its Z monitors.

Our plan for this article included a Series 9 Pro. We found no Series 9 Pro monitor on the HP pages we checked, so if a quotation lists one, ask for the HP datasheet and product number before accepting it.

Decoding a Series Pro HP monitor model name

Take three names straight from HP's store: "HP Series 5 Pro 27 inch QHD Monitor, 527pq", "HP Series 7 Pro 27 inch 4K Thunderbolt 4 Monitor, 727pk" and "HP Series 5 Pro 23.8 inch FHD Monitor, 524pf". Laid side by side, the structure is consistent.

First digit: the series

527pq and 524pf start with 5 and are Series 5 Pro. 727pk and 732pk start with 7 and are Series 7 Pro. 327ph and 322pv start with 3 and are Series 3 Pro. The higher the series, the more the monitor offers: on HP's spec sheets the 27 inch models move from 250 nits and 1000:1 contrast on the 327ph, to 350 nits and 1500:1 on the 527pq, to 400 nits and 2000:1 with factory colour calibration on the 727pk.

Next two digits: the size, rounded

27 means 27 inch, 32 means the 31.5 inch 732pk, 34 means the 34 inch 534pm, and 24 covers both the 23.8 inch 524pf and the 24 inch 724pn. The 322pv is listed by HP at 21.45 inches, and the 514pn is a 14 inch portable monitor. Treat the two digits as a size class and read the exact diagonal from the full product name.

The letters: "p" and the variant

Every Pro model we found carries a "p" after the size. The final letter then tracks the headline feature in HP's own product titles:

Final letterHP models carrying itWhat HP's titles say about them
f524pf, 527pfFHD
q527pqQHD
k727pk, 732pk4K, with Thunderbolt 4 on both
u527puQHD with USB-C
m527pm, 534pmUSB-C conferencing monitors with camera, microphone and speakers
n724pn, 514pnWUXGA and WQXGA, both taller 16:10 resolutions

The "h" on the 327ph and the "v" on the 322pv do not map to anything obvious in their titles, which is why the full product title and spec sheet should always be the final word. Where a pattern holds, though, it saves time: a quotation offering a "527pf" when you asked for QHD is offering the wrong monitor.

Reading E-Series and other older HP monitor names

Before the Series Pro names, HP business monitors used a letter for the family, a size, a feature letter and a generation. The pattern is still on sale:

  • E27k G5: E-Series, 27 inch, "k" for 4K (HP's title reads "27 inch 4K USB-C Monitor"), fifth generation.
  • E24t G5: E-Series, 23.8 inch, "t" for touch (HP's title reads "23.8 inch FHD Touch Monitor").
  • E22 G5: E-Series, 21.5 inch, no feature letter, so the plain FHD model.

The "G" number is the generation. A G5 replaces a G4 of the same name, and specifications can change between generations, so "E27k" without a generation is not a complete description. Ask for the generation on every quotation line.

Do not read monitor series numbers through HP's PC naming rules either. HP's 2024 PC brand update made odd numbers consumer and even numbers commercial for laptops and desktops, but Series 3 Pro, 5 Pro and 7 Pro monitors sit on HP's business monitor pages. The "Pro" is the business signal for monitors.

Where Z and OMEN fit in a business order

Z and OMEN names turn up in office quotations more often than you might expect, usually because a supplier is offering what it has in stock. Both are legitimate HP families, but they answer different needs from the Series Pro range.

  • Z displays sit alongside HP's Z workstations and are aimed at creative and technical users. HP's US store gives them their own filter. If your design team runs Z workstations, a Z display is a natural match, but compare it with the Series 7 Pro, which HP already lists with factory colour calibration and Pantone validation on the 727pk.
  • OMEN monitors are HP's gaming line, listed under gaming monitors on HP's store. Fast refresh rates help in games; in an office they add little. If an OMEN monitor appears on a business quotation, ask why, and check its stand, ports and warranty against the Series Pro model it is replacing.

What the HP monitor name does not tell you

A model name narrows the field, but several features that matter in an office never appear in it. Always read these from the spec sheet:

  • USB-C charging power. Two USB-C monitors can supply very different power. HP lists up to 65W on the E27k G5 and up to 100W on the 527pm, which decides whether a given laptop charges properly from one cable.
  • Extra ports. The 727pk adds an RJ45 network port and a KVM switch; the 327ph keeps a VGA input for older equipment. Neither shows in the name.
  • Daisy chain support. HP lists daisy chaining on the 527pm and 727pk, to a second monitor of the same series, but you only learn that from the specifications.
  • Stand movement. Some models list height, tilt, swivel and pivot; the 327ph lists tilt and height only.
  • Eye comfort features. HP Eye Ease, which HP describes as TÜV certified low blue light hardware, and ambient light sensors vary by model.
  • Warranty. HP's spec sheets for current 27 inch models list a three year limited warranty, but confirm the terms for the UAE.

A worked example: reading a quotation line

Suppose a Dubai quotation reads "HP 727pk, 8J9G2AA, qty 4". Decoded: Series 7 Pro (the 7), 27 inch (the 27), Pro business line (the p), 4K (the k). The product number 8J9G2AA matches the one HP lists for the 727pk on its own store. From the spec sheet you then confirm the details the name hides: Thunderbolt 4 with up to 100W of charging, DisplayPort in and out for daisy chaining, and an IPS Black panel.

Now suppose a second supplier offers "HP 27 inch 4K monitor" with no model or product number. You cannot tell whether that is a 727pk, an E27k G5 or something else entirely, and the two differ in charging power, ports and contrast. Ask for the model name and product number before comparing the two offers.

Model name versus product number

The model name, such as 527pq, describes the monitor. The product number, such as 9D9S0UT for the 527pq on HP's store, identifies one exact configuration, and it is what HP's support and warranty systems use. HP lists the 727pk as 8J9G2AA and the E27k G5 as 6N4C4AA. Retail listings sometimes add a localisation code after a hash sign, such as #ABA on US listings.

For a Dubai buyer this matters in two ways:

  1. The same model can carry different product numbers in different regions, sometimes with a different power cable or included accessories. Ask for the product number intended for the UAE.
  2. The product number is what you check after delivery. Match the product number on the box with the tax invoice, then enter the serial number on HP's Middle East warranty check page.

Our guide to genuine versus grey market hardware in the UAE explains why a product number from another region can mean a warranty that is awkward to claim here.

Using the HP monitor name to shortlist quickly

Once you can read the names, shortlisting takes minutes:

  • Need QHD at 27 inches for general office use? Look for 527 with a "q" or "u", depending on whether you need USB-C.
  • Need one cable to a laptop, plus a webcam? Look for an "m": the 527pm or the 34 inch 534pm.
  • Need 4K with Thunderbolt for design work? Look for a 7 series "k": the 727pk or 732pk.
  • Need a taller 16:10 screen for documents or code? Look for an "n", such as the 724pn.
  • Need the lowest cost FHD screen for a shared terminal? Look at Series 3 Pro.

Frequently asked questions about HP monitor names

What does "Pro" mean in an HP monitor name?

HP's business monitor filters list Series 3 Pro, 5 Pro and 7 Pro, while models without "Pro", such as the 327se, did not appear there. Treat "Pro" as the business line.

What is the difference between the 527pq and 527pu?

Both are 27 inch QHD Series 5 Pro monitors in HP's listings. The 527pu is titled as a USB-C model, while the 527pq connects through HDMI and DisplayPort with a USB hub.

What does "G5" mean on an HP E-Series monitor?

It is the generation. An E27k G5 is the fifth generation of that model, and specifications can differ from earlier generations with the same name.

Is there an HP Series 9 Pro monitor?

We did not find one on the HP pages we checked on 20 October 2026. If you are offered one, ask for HP's datasheet and product number.

Which number should I use when ordering?

The product number, not just the model name. It pins down the exact configuration and is what HP's warranty system recognises.
