Huawei Office in Dubai or a Partner? Buying Huawei Enterprise Kit

If you want to buy Huawei enterprise equipment for a UAE business, the Huawei office in Dubai is not where the order is placed. Huawei Enterprise sells IdeaHub collaboration displays, campus networking and its HUAWEI eKit small business range through partners, and its own How to Buy page points buyers to a pricing enquiry form, a live chat and a Find a Reseller tool. The partner quotes, delivers, installs and handles the first line of support. That makes four things worth settling before you sign: which model actually fits the room or network, what software or service sits alongside the hardware, how warranty replacement works, and, for companies with a US connection, whether Huawei equipment is allowed in your estate at all.

This guide takes each of those in turn, using Huawei's published product, warranty and partner pages and the relevant US rules.

Why the Huawei office in Dubai points buyers to partners

Huawei's enterprise site lists its UAE office at Bay Gate Tower in Business Bay. It is a corporate office. Huawei describes its enterprise distribution strategy as partner led, and at the launch of its eKit distribution offer at GITEX GLOBAL 2023 in Dubai the company said it wanted products that partners find easy to buy, sell, install and maintain. The Find a Reseller tool exists because Huawei expects most enterprise customers to transact through a partner.

For a buyer that is not a drawback. A partner can combine Huawei items with cabling, mounting, other vendors' switches or a video platform on one quotation, and can be held to a delivery date and a support response in a way a regional office cannot. The trade off is that you have to choose the partner with care, which is covered below. Our guide to buying direct, through a distributor or through a reseller in the UAE sets out how the layers fit together in general.

IdeaHub: what you are actually choosing between

IdeaHub is the product most UAE offices ask about. Huawei's IdeaHub page currently presents seven models: the ES3, ES2 Plus, ES2 and S2 for meeting rooms, the K3 for education, the B3 for general office use, and the IdeaHub Board 3 Pro. Each is an all in one display with built in camera, microphones and speakers, designed so a room needs little extra hardware.

How the B3 is specified

Huawei's page for the IdeaHub B3 gives a useful picture of what the office range does. It lists 1080p cloud meetings, a feature Huawei calls Bring Your Own Meeting that hands a call from a laptop to the display and works with mainstream meeting apps such as Webex and Zoom, WiFi 6 for direct wireless projection, a 4K camera with automatic framing and speaker tracking, sound pickup out to 10 metres, and handwriting on screen with 16 millisecond latency. Laptops can share by HDMI or USB Type C cable, through the IdeaShare app on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS or HarmonyOS, or with a plug in IdeaShare Key.

Two details on that page matter more for an IT team than the headline features. The IdeaManager platform manages multiple IdeaHubs remotely, including batch configuration, upgrades and shutdown, and IdeaCare runs one click diagnostics for common faults. If you are fitting out more than three or four rooms, ask the partner to include and configure the management platform rather than leaving each screen to be updated by hand.

Choosing by room, not by model number

  • Huddle and small meeting rooms. The office models such as the IdeaHub B3 are built around Bring Your Own Meeting, which suits companies that already run Teams, Zoom or Webex from laptops.
  • Main meeting and board rooms. The ES and S lines, including the IdeaHub S2 and the IdeaHub ES2 Plus, are the meeting room series in Huawei's lineup, and are the ones to compare for rooms where the display is the main conferencing endpoint.
  • Classrooms and training rooms. Huawei positions the K3 for education specifically.

Measure the room, count the seats and note where people sit relative to the wall before choosing a size. Our note on meeting room video kit people actually use covers the room questions that apply to any brand.

HUAWEI eKit: the small business line

Huawei describes eKit as a brand created for its distribution business, aimed at small and medium sized companies. According to Huawei's October 2023 announcement from Dubai, the eKit range covers intelligent collaboration, wired and wireless networks, IP and optical access networks, storage and IT platforms, and in the campus networking area eKit launched 31 new SME network products that year, including converged gateways, switches and WLAN products. The same announcement noted that distribution partners were applying IdeaHub in retail, hospitals and hotels.

The eKit website has a UAE local version. In practice, eKit equipment reaches a UAE office through a distributor and then an installer or reseller, which is the subcontractor centred model Huawei describes. If a supplier quotes you eKit networking, ask for the full model list and check each item against the eKit site or the Huawei enterprise documentation centre, so you know you are getting current products rather than old stock.

Software, cloud services and the parts that are not hardware

Collaboration displays and network gear increasingly depend on software that is not visible on the delivery note. Before accepting a quotation, ask the partner to list every item that is not physical hardware and to state its term.

  • Meeting platform. Bring Your Own Meeting uses your existing Teams, Zoom or Webex subscription from the laptop. If you want the display to join meetings natively, confirm which platform it will run and who supplies that licence.
  • Device management. Ask whether IdeaManager, or the equivalent network management tool for switches and access points, is included, who hosts it and how long access lasts.
  • Feature or capacity licences. Some enterprise networking functions are licensed separately from the box. The quotation should name any such licence by part number, so it can be renewed or transferred later.
  • Firmware access. Huawei hosts software downloads for enterprise products on its support portal. Ask who holds the portal account linked to your equipment and make sure it is in your company's name.

Our guide to reading an enterprise hardware quotation line by line shows how to separate hardware, licences and services on any vendor's paperwork.

Warranty and replacement for Huawei enterprise products

Huawei publishes an Enterprise Warranty Policy on support.huawei.com, at version 2.3 with an update date of 8 November 2023. It is accompanied by three attachments: a list of models covered by a limited lifetime warranty, a list of countries where that cover applies, and a list of customer replaceable units. The support portal also offers RMA status and maintenance status checks.

Three points follow for a Dubai buyer. First, check your exact model against both lists, because lifetime cover depends on model and country together. Second, understand who you call. With a partner sale, the partner normally handles the fault report and the replacement, so ask for the response time in writing and whether spares are held in the UAE. Third, record serial numbers against the invoice on delivery, because every warranty or RMA conversation starts there. The customer replaceable unit list tells you which parts Huawei expects your own team to swap, which is worth reading before deciding whether to keep spares on site.

A compliance note for buyers with a US connection

This section is general information, not legal advice. If your company has any US link, take advice from your own compliance team or counsel before buying Huawei equipment.

The Entity List

The US Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security added Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. to its Entity List in a rule published in the Federal Register on 21 May 2019 (84 FR 22961), effective from 16 May 2019. Huawei was listed under China, and the same rule added 68 non US affiliates in 26 other destinations. The Entity List works mainly by requiring a US licence to export, reexport or transfer items subject to US export rules to the listed companies. In other words, it governs what can be supplied to Huawei. Whether it has any bearing on your own purchase depends on your company's circumstances, which is a question for your advisers.

US government contractors

The rule more likely to affect a Dubai buyer is Section 889 of the US defence authorisation act for fiscal year 2019, implemented in the US Federal Acquisition Regulation clause FAR 52.204-25. It covers telecommunications equipment produced by Huawei and ZTE and their subsidiaries and affiliates. From 13 August 2019, US federal agencies could not procure covered equipment, and from 13 August 2020 they could not contract with an entity that uses it, even where that use is unrelated to the federal contract. The clause has exceptions, including for equipment that cannot route or redirect user data traffic or permit visibility into user data.

So a UAE subsidiary of a group that holds US federal contracts, or a company that hopes to win them, may find that its group policy prohibits Huawei networking equipment in any office. Check the policy before the quotation stage, not after delivery. Companies with no US government business and no US parent are not affected by that clause.

Choosing the partner for a Huawei enterprise order

With the partner carrying the delivery, the warranty contact and often the configuration, these checks are worth the half hour they take:

  1. Look the company up with Huawei's Find a Reseller tool, and ask where its stock comes from if it buys through a distributor.
  2. Ask for current model names that match Huawei's own product pages, not superseded ones.
  3. Get the warranty route, response time and spares location written on the quotation.
  4. Confirm who owns the support portal account and the device management platform after handover.
  5. For multi room projects, ask for a site survey or at least room drawings before final sizing.

Huawei office in Dubai and enterprise buying: FAQs

Can I buy IdeaHub directly from the Huawei office in Dubai?

Huawei's How to Buy page offers a pricing enquiry form, live chat and a Find a Reseller search, and its distribution strategy is partner led. Expect an enquiry to the Huawei office in Dubai to be passed to a partner who will quote, deliver and support the equipment.

Does IdeaHub work with Microsoft Teams or Zoom?

Huawei says the IdeaHub B3's Bring Your Own Meeting feature supports mainstream cloud meeting apps such as Webex and Zoom, by moving the call from a laptop to the display's camera, microphones and speakers. Confirm the exact platform and mode with the supplier for the model you choose.

What is HUAWEI eKit?

It is Huawei's brand for products sold through distribution to small and medium sized businesses, covering collaboration, wired and wireless networking, optical access, storage and IT platforms. It was launched for the Middle East and Central Asia at GITEX GLOBAL 2023 in Dubai.

Is there a lifetime warranty on Huawei enterprise products?

Huawei's Enterprise Warranty Policy includes a limited lifetime warranty for models on a published list, in countries on a published list. Check both for your model and have the supplier confirm the cover on the quotation.

Can a company with a US parent use Huawei equipment in the UAE?

It depends on the company's obligations. Groups holding US federal contracts are bound by Section 889 and FAR 52.204-25, which can bar the use of covered Huawei telecommunications equipment anywhere in the business. Take compliance advice before ordering.

What to send with a Huawei enterprise enquiry

Codeeo Tech is an IT hardware supplier at Building A1, IFZA Business Park in Dubai Silicon Oasis. We are not a Huawei office or an authorised Huawei service centre. Our catalogue lists the IdeaHub range, including the IdeaHub Board 2, with every item priced through Add to Quote. To get a quotation that answers the questions above, send:

  1. The rooms or network you are equipping, with seat counts and room dimensions for displays.
  2. The meeting platform your staff use today.
  3. Quantities, delivery location in the UAE and the date you need the equipment.
  4. Whether your group has any US government contracts or a US parent, so the compliance question is settled first.
  5. The company name for the invoice and warranty records.

Send those through our contact form and the reply will set out the model, the software items, the warranty route and the delivery timing on one page.
